Reports from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch confirm a 3-year contract.

Submitted by Kevin Hood on Thu, 2007-05-31 15:49. St. Louis Cardinals NewsA little nugget of wisdom from everybody's favorite Cardinal-hater.
Mike(Utica,NY): Where does Colby Rasmus rank as a top propsect?
Keith Law: Top 20 in baseball. Maybe top 10, although I haven't tried to update my list recently and could be overstating it. He's very, very good.
The NL Central sucks, Yadier Molina to the DL, and other matters
Submitted by Kevin Hood on Thu, 2007-05-31 07:52. St. Louis Cardinals NewsA little perspective, if you will, on the wild and woolly NL Central as we close out the month of May.
*The Brewers have lost 13 of 17, and still hold a 5.5 game lead.
*The Pirates have lost 7 of 11 and are in second place.
*The Cubs have lost 14 of 20.
*The Cardinals are 15-27 against teams not named "Pittsburgh".
*The Astros have lost ten in a row, which is one short of the all-time franchise record.
*And Cincinnati has the worst record in the league.
Bryan Burwell and Joe Starkey from whatever damn newspaper they have in Pittsburgh both have columns on the woeful state of the division. Turns out the NL Central is on pace to be the worst division ever since baseball's unfortunate realignment to six divisions. (Memo to TLR: eight games below .500 is not "treading water". It's more like "drowning".)
Anthony Reyes down, Troy Cate up
Submitted by Kevin Hood on Sun, 2007-05-27 12:40. St. Louis Cardinals Player MovesAnother move has been made. Reyes is off to AAA. Right now on the TV broadcast, Rick Horton is going on about the lack of run support Anthony Reyes has gotten, and it's true that he doesn't deserve to be 0-8, but the fact of the matter is that a 6.08 ERA is fucking terrible. Reyes has richly earned this demotion. The young man has a lot of problems with his mechanics and his ability to pitch low in the strike zone. I do not know what the answer is with Anthony. It's hard not to look at his great minor league numbers and his occasional flashes of promise in the bigs (the one-hitter against the White Sox, that fine outing in the World Series) and not think that he has potential as a big-league pitcher. But then you watch him get his bell rung again and again and think otherwise. In any case, it will be good to get him in the minors, where he can hopefully get himself straightened out without taking a pounding for the big club every five days.
Welcome to the Cardinals, Troy Cate

Submitted by Kevin Hood on Sat, 2007-05-26 22:25. St. Louis Cardinals NewsOh yeah, I have a blog.
Anyway, here are the pictures I took at Dodger Stadium, where the Cardinals lost 5-4 on a pinch-hit three-run homer by Wilson Betemit. (That link is to the page on a long album of Los Angeles photos where the game photos start). Kiip Wells coughed up something like a half-dozen walks and made me wish the San Andreas Fault would open up and swallow him up. That was one night after Wainwright had the worst game of his young career, a night in which he clearly had no idea where the baseball was going.
It was most discouraging. As in "wow, our season is going straight down the toilet" discouraging. The following debacle at Detroit, where the Cardinals got swept in three games by a combined score of 28-14, certainly helped encourage that conclusion. The sweep in Detroit dropped the boys to 16-25 as the season hit its quarter turn. In case you were wondering, that comes out to a record of about 63-99 for the year.
Am I going to the Wednesday Cardinals-Dodgers game? Yes, yes I am

Submitted by Kevin Hood on Mon, 2007-05-14 14:41. St. Louis Cardinals NewsNormally I really dislike trade rumors, because it's usually people talking out of their ass. But this comes from Bernie Miklasz, who does know some people, after all.
I like the idea of trading Rolen to the Dodgers, and I like the idea of Ethier, but we'd need to get someone not named Wilson Betemit in this deal. I'd much rather stick Spiezio at third and get an AA prospect.
